The Beginning Of Everything

On this episode of 'What Is J Reading' I'm going to be talking about a brand news series I am reading. Okay, it's brand new to me. It was published last year. I am really feeling fantasy romance books lately. I'm consuming the heck out of them. I've never been a stranger to this genre, but as of late, it's all that is keeping me out of a reading slump. And I am a-o-kay with that.

So, unbeknownst to me (I missed a lot in 2020 with my social media hiatus), I found out that one of my favorite romance authors had published a Fantasy Romance series, I jumped quick. I read the first sentence in the blurb and knew immediately I wanted all of it.

Then I read the reviews. Gah! I know better than to do that. I started doubting whether the book was worth it or not. I decided I was going to give it a shot anyways. Favorite author and all.

So here it goes... here's my review of The Beginning of Everything by Kristen Ashley.

Even after reading the reviews I went in with an open mind. I feel like that is necessary for fantasy books. World building isn't an easy task and I know us authors want to get that stuff right.

I found that I really didn't have anything to worry about. There was one scene in the very beginning I was like, "Uhhh". But again, it's fantasy. I get it, every story needs a what, who, how and all that. It deepens the plot.

To be blunt, I absolutely loved this story. To me, it wasn't hard to follow along with. Though it does follow more than one character at a time. It was easily identifiable who those characters were when speaking and/or with their actions.

The world building was absolutely brilliant. I was able to visualize each and every scene as if it were a movie. This is why I love the fantasy genre so much. The things we can let our minds wander to with the help of authors words.

This particular authors typically always nails it for me. I love how her stories wind together and you feel as if you are going through what those characters are going through.

I would highly recommend this book (and probably the rest of series, I haven't gotten that far yet)
